To celebrate World Environment Day, ECO2 launched the global low-carbon walk-a-thon, but because of COVID – 19’s spread worldwide, the event was mainly held in Chinese cities. Participants from 9 different provinces, including Guangxi, Fujian, Hubei, Shanxi, Chongqing, Shandong, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Henan and others, spontaneously organized on June 5th through ECO2’s low-carbon volunteers to demonstrate low-carbon travel, a response to the call for international climate action.
Our goal is to protect the environment. ECO2 has been hoping to spread the concept of green, low-carbon and environmental protection to every corner. It is a long road to realize your dream, but we still believe that one person can make an huge impact. We hope the green flags in the hands of ECO2 low-carbon volunteers will lead more people to the low-carbon road.
World Environment Day urges everyone to protect the natural environment. An estimated seven million people die each year from air pollution, and most of them are in the Asia-Pacific region. June 5th is a day to encourage people in the world to take action, from preventing littering to reducing CO2 emissions. We encourage everyone to spread awareness about climate change and environmental protection on this important day. China, in particular, has shown remarkable leadership in tackling air pollution at home. China currently has half of the world's electric cars and 99 percent of its electric buses, and has gotten involved by hosting the World Environment Day conference in 2019.
The theme of this year's World Environment Day is "Time for Nature". We long for blue skies, white clouds, clear water, green mountains and fresh air. But in real life, human activities such as deforestation and encroachment on habitats have seriously threatened our natural ecosystems.
In order to strengthen the global carbon exchange market, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and protect the sustainable development of the biophysical environment, we have planned to develop ECO2 Ledger. Carbon credits are a specific unit that represents carbon emissions. Individuals can buy carbon credits to offset their carbon emissions, which could directly help environmental protection, afforestation, clean energy and other emission reduction projects, forming a virtuous circle and promoting sustainable development. ECO2 Ledger is currently testing its internal beta testnet, and we look forward to its official launch. We aim to achieve carbon neutrality across all the whole world, and to incentivize it with blockchain technology.
To coincide with World Environment Day, we will invite international environmental and science professionals to join our webinar on the topic of innovation and climate action before the end of this month. We will exchange the latest news of international environmental science and technology, and how individual participants can make an impact in global climate action.
We hope to see you there!
